For years, a group of 10 fluffy beasts called the Flurbles has lived on an island. Nobody knew about them, and they had a happy life there. But, one day, a monster suddenly pops out of the sea, big as a skyscraper, stinky as eh someone very stinky – an horrendous experience altogether. He states that he will eat them all, the whole population, alive! But, though he doesn’t look like it, he’s a fair monster, so he proposes playing a game:
Tomorrow morning I’ll give you all a hat, either black or white, and I’ll make you stand in a straight line, facing each other’s backs, so that the last person sees all the other 19 in front of him. I’ll then ask each and every one of you the color of your hat, and all you are allowed to answer is an unemotional ‘black’ or ‘white’. No sounds, no movements, nothing’s allowed. If you’re correct, you live, if you’re wrong, you’ll be eaten instantly.
After the big monster has spoken, you all start to discuss how to survive this, using your best logic reasoning skills. The next day you’re all standing in a line proud and tall, because you know most of you are going to survive…what’s the plan?
